For Posterity

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “For Posterity.”

Ignore yourself.

Be stronger than your fear of connection and sensitivity. Than your years of bad habits and lazy voice that was slow to object to privileges you received at the expense—of others.

Plug your ears.

When the familiar voices in your family and community sing sad songs that command you to be convinced that your roots have rotted. That command you not to lift every voice but to poison every mind of every friend you have with rage and unreasonable attitudes. That command you not to embrace the majority of those who love you not because you are their family but because you are a human—worthy of love. That command you to be—the harbinger of civil unrest.

Then share compassion.

For those who have not yet realized that their unintelligible hatred and prejudgment is responsible for their lack of evolutionary development. Leaving them to lay down in progressions graveyard hoping—for a decent burial.
